A bold, stern, powerful wine, suitable for pairing with heavier dishes, including red meat. Kill Hill is sourced from the fruit at the highest elevation of our hillside vineyard, and blended primarily of the Pommard, Dijon 667, and Dijon 114 clones.
The 2023 growing season was ideal. A mild Spring eased into a hot Summer with a large fruit set of very healthy grapes. The vines were thriving in our second year as a fully organic vineyard, and it was great to see them rebound with an abundance of latent energy after a small fruit set from the damp and difficult 2022 crop. We harvested September 18-24; which is right in our typical picking window.
Expect bold, fruit-forward wines with excellent balance of fruit, acidity, and tannins from this exceptional vintage. We recommend giving it several years bottle aging to achieve the ideal balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality. Like most Lenné pinot noirs, this wine will happily cellar a decade or longer.
Large format bottles are ideal for long term cellar aging. Their size and heft also makes them an impressive and dramatic gift. The 2023 vintage is the first time Lenné has produced large format bottles, and they were made in very limited quantities; just 30 bottles each of Kill Hill and South Slope.
