The Lenné Estate is typically a blend of all five pinot noir clones grown on our tiny, 15.5 acre hillside vineyard. The percentages of each clone vary year to year, but this wine is always at least 50% Pommard, which gives is a bold, dark, more full-bodied and black-fruited profile. In 2021 we got a fantastic yield and quality of Pommard from our two blocks of that clone, and went heavier on the blend.
Aromatics include black cherry, black pepper, pine cone, orange peel. The mouthfeel is soothing and coating, with mild acidity and rich texture. Flavors include dark chocolate and cherry compote, with tropical notes and a velvety finish.
The 2021 vintage was long and hot, with a larger than average fruit set that paired beautifully with the lengthy ripening season. Our 2021 pinots are bold and fruit-forward, but even young, they show excellent balance with tannic structure and acidity on the finish courtesy of the longer than usual hang time. In such a good vintage we made a higher percent of our single clone wines, which means correspondingly less Lenne Estate. The staff recommends that you snap up a few bottles while they remain in stock.
