The Dijon 777 clone is one of the most popular in the Willamette Valley, and is typically silky and balanced; not the heaviest or the lightest of our pinot noir clones. "Sad Jack" is named after Sadie and Jackson, two terriers owned by Steve and Karen Lutz when they founded Lenné vineyard in 2000.
The 2021 vintage was long and hot, with a larger than average fruit set that paired beautifully with the lengthy ripening season. Our 2021 pinots are bold and fruit-forward, but even young, they show excellent balance with tannic structure and acidity on the finish, courtesy of the longer than usual hang time.
The 2021 Sad Jack has notes of raspberry and strawberry on the nose, with juicy, red and black fruits and cherry pie. The well-balanced acidity makes for a bright mouthfeel, with a silky, smooth finish typical of the 777 clone.
